Macaulay Culkin is not trying to pretend that he did not experiment with all kinds of drugs in his past! However, he insists that this is no longer the case and that he’s been careful to remain clean and not ‘stupid!’
During an interview for Esquire, the actor made it very clear that while he’s had his ‘fun’ with substances, these days he’s not only not using any but is also determined to keep it that wat.
‘I played with some fire. At the same time, I have never been to rehab or anything. I have never had to clean out that way. There were times when I had to really catch myself, once or twice. You are having too good a time, Mack. I mean, I have friends who ask me, ‘How do I get clean?’ And I go, I am the last person you should ask, because I am gonna give you the worst advice, which is: Just stop. Just stop!’
Obviously, he knows that it’s not how it works for most people, which is why it’s a bad piece of advice.
However, Culkin mentioned that he was never that far into it to need outside help in the first place.
He was happy to say that he never does any drugs anymore but that’s not to say he regrets anything in his past either since it feels like he would not be the person he is today without them.
‘I do love them. They’re like old friends. But sometimes you outgrow your friends,’ he noted.
The actor did stress that while he doesn’t do drugs anymore, he drinks and smokes a lot instead.
As for why he’s decided to live a drug-free life, Culkin mentioned that his girlfriend and fellow actress Brenda Song is one of the main reasons.
The two have a pretty serious relationship and not only live together but are also trying to have a baby.
